Utapau Shadow trooper

Next up, Stealth Armour!!!

Rick at KOTE put together this avatar for me for use on the message boards - to get me through until this project is finished : ) .

This armour was not used in the ROTS movie, and references are thin on the ground, the best being the packaging image from the Hasbro figure.

The figure itself shows darker grey on the matte black background, which I prefer (pale grey and gloss black is not particularly stealthy is it?)

Using the same Vallejo paint that I used on the interior of my RT Mod lid, and humbrol enamel (156), I airbrushed this swatch. The figure is shown for comparison.

The Helmet.

The Lid is an SMC, a fibre glass construction, not too heavy and pretty sturdy.

I decided to go to town on surfacing it, and started by sanding and mori-mori'ing some areas (the yellow splodges in the first 2 pics). The next 4 pics show progress after a second sanding. I then gave 3 coats of primer, removed the visor area and frown vents, and sanded once more (last 5 pics).

The yellow arrows show areas I built up and/or filled. The first shot shows an extended chin area, filled side "stripes" and crest. The stripes and crest were filled with PU resin, and stripe/chin areas built up with mesh, epoxy putty (tamiya quick type) and mori-mori. The second picture shows a "throught the visor hole" shot of the mesh and putty etc.
